How do I get a co-op work permit to work in Canada?

coop work permit

If you are a student wanting to work in Canada through a co-op work permit or educational work placement, you’ve come to the right place!

One of the most popular ways to visit Canada is to obtain a study permit as it allows you to gain work experience and study while also making an income.

First thing’s first, you should evaluate whether you are eligible to apply for a Canadian co-op work permit. Ask yourself if:

·      you have a valid study permit,

·      work is required to complete your study program in Canada,

·      you have a letter from your school that confirms all students in your program need to complete work placements to get their degree, and

·      your co-op placement or internship totals 50% or less of your study program

To work in Canada while completing your education, you need to apply for both a work permit and a study permit. The application package for these permits contains both an instruction guide and the required forms to fill out. It is highly suggested that you read through the instruction guide before applying for a work permit in Canada. If you have not already applied for your study permit, you can apply for both your study and co-op work permit at the same time.

After you’ve read the instruction guide AND confirmed your eligibility, the application process can begin…

1.     Gather all documents

To apply for a study work permit in Canada, use the document checklist to ensure you have everything you need.

2.     Complete the application

Fill out the required forms and submit your documents online using the checklist.

3.     Pay your application fees

We know, everyone’s least favourite part! All fees must be submitted with your application according to the services you are requesting.

4.     Pay your application fees

Once you’ve submitted your work permit application for Canada, processing times can vary depending on your application length, status, or execution.
