In the previous post , we talked a little about safety in Canada, bringing the country's crime rates and showing a little of the population's customs and practices so that it remains a pleasant place to visit and also to live.

Today, following the topic of security, we will talk about climate security. The Canadian government is very concerned about this factor when it thinks about the safety of the population, as Canada is a country that is located in a region with many fluctuations in temperature and that can suffer from natural disasters such as cyclones, hurricanes, tornadoes and blizzards in the cold months.

Hurricane and Storm Alerts

From June to November, when air and ocean temperatures rise in Canada, there are many tornadoes, hurricanes and other types of natural disasters. In the country, there is the CHC (Canadian Hurricane Centre), a government organization that controls the occurrence of catastrophes and sudden changes in the climate. This center is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The notices are published on the organ's Twitter page and sent to the population about a week before the weather event arrives in the country. In this way, there is plenty of time for the population to prepare.

How to prepare for a natural disaster in Canada?

The most important thing, when receiving the alert, is to remain calm. The storm does not always reach the Canadian coast with the same intensity as it had when it was identified over the ocean. So, before worrying, try to find out about the intensity of the winds in the city you are in. After checking the situation, it is important to fill the car with fuel, provide enough groceries, food, water, hygiene materials and first aid kit to store for at least 72 hours. As when storms or hurricanes occur the probability of a power outage is high, it is recommended that battery-operated flashlights be used; it is also recommended that portable cell phone chargers and other electronic equipment be provided.

Cold care

As you know, winter is harsh in Canada. When the cold weather arrives, look for clothes suitable for the season, such as waterproof coats and thermal blouses and pants. In cold months, it is very common for a thin layer of ice to form on the streets. To avoid accidents, it is essential to look for non-slip shoes. In addition, for those who own a car, it is very important that in winter they change their tires to snow tires. The roads freeze - yes, they freeze! - and the risk of accidents is very high when the proper equipment is not used.
