What is an Express Entry profile?

Express Entry is an online system made to manage Canada’s immigration applications all in one place. When immigrating to Canada, your Express Entry profile is an asset that allows the Canadian government to evaluate whether a skilled applicant is eligible to immigrate.

Those interested in the program have to submit an online profile called an Expression of interest (EOI) to the Canada express entry pool. Each immigrant profile is assigned a number of points that enhance their eligibility to undergo Canada immigration. These points are based on a number of things such as the persons age, level of education, work experience, language skills, etc. and are placed into four categories:

A) Core/Human Capital factors

B) Spouse or common-law partner factors

C) Skill Transferability factors

D) Additional points

Why do the points matter?

Immigration to Nova Scotia may or may NOT be a long process, due to possible high volume of

applications, however, having a Express Entry profile is one way to fast forward your application wait time. Once your profile is submitted into the Express Entry pool with your points tallied, it will be ranked against other immigrant applications according to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The government then decides which applicants will receive an invitation to apply (ITA) based on the highest-ranked profiles in the pool. It turns out you could be enjoying the fresh ocean air and beautiful scenery of Nova Scotia much sooner than you expected!

How do I make my profile strong?

A strong Express Entry profile starts with providing as much information as possible about you, your family, or anyone who you plan to travel with when immigrating to Canada. While applying for Canadian Immigration, it’s also crucial to provide legitimate and detailed information. The most effective way to improve your chances of approval is to provide proper documentation for your application.

You can’t win a game without researching the rules, right? This is why you should ALWAYS be sure to check, double check, and triple check your eligibility. Make sure you meet all of the criteria to give yourself the best possible chance of receiving an ITA.

To successfully complete your profile, each applicant should have:

  • Passport or travel document

  • The name of the occupation that best describes their work experience in the form of an NOC code, search the database to find yours here.

  • Language test results.

  • Foreign Educational Credential assessment result (if necessary)

  • A copy of a written job offer from a qualified employer (if the applicant has been offered a job).

  • Proof of provincial nomination for permanent residence (if the candidate has received provincial nomination).

On top of having these things, if your score is still lower than expected, you may want to look into a provincial nominee program (PNP), as this can boost your score by up to 600 points!
